Calculators Cafe

Editorial policy

Who builds these calculators, where the formulas and rates come from, how often we review them, and how to get something corrected.

Who writes and maintains this site

Calculators Cafe is an independent project maintained by The Calculators Cafe editorial team (Founder and editor). There is no large editorial team and no agency behind it — the calculators, the explanations and the guides are written and checked by the same person who runs the site. That is a deliberate choice: it keeps the content consistent and makes corrections quick.

How the calculators are built

Every tool on the site follows the same process:

  • The formula is taken from a published, authoritative source — a regulator, a tax authority, a medical body or an international standards organisation.
  • The inputs and outputs are documented on the page itself, so the calculation is transparent rather than a black box.
  • Each page carries a worked example with real numbers, so you can verify the result by hand.
  • Rates that change over time — tax slabs, small-savings rates, GST slabs, TDS rates — are stored in one configuration file and dated on the page, so an update happens everywhere at once.

How we verify the numbers

  • Formulas are checked against hand calculations and, where possible, against the official calculator for the same scheme.
  • An automated test suite covers the site and its calculator engine, so a change cannot silently break an existing tool.
  • Every worked example on the site is produced by the same engine that runs the calculator, not typed in by hand.
  • When a rate changes, the page is updated and the review date at the top of the page moves with it.

Review cadence

Tax, salary and savings calculators are reviewed whenever a budget, notification or scheme change is announced. Other calculators are reviewed periodically for formula changes and broken links. Each calculator page shows when it was last reviewed, and every source used is listed at the bottom of the page.

Sources

Where a page depends on official rules or rates, it links to the body that publishes them — for example the Income Tax Department, the GST portal, EPFO, PFRDA, the Reserve Bank of India, AMFI and SEBI for finance, and the WHO and ICMR for health guidance. Those links are there so you can check the rule yourself rather than taking our word for it.

Corrections

If a calculator produces a result you believe is wrong, or a rate is out of date, please tell us. Include the calculator name, the inputs you used and the result you expected. Corrections are treated as a priority: the fix is made, the page review date is updated, and where the change is material we say so on the page.

Advertising and independence

The site is supported by advertising, which keeps every calculator free. Advertisers have no influence over the calculators, the formulas or the editorial content, and advertising is kept visually separate from the tools. If we ever publish paid or sponsored content, it will be clearly labelled as such. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
